SINOVAC Expands Egypt Partnership with Localized Influenza and sIPV Vaccine Production

BEIJING, June 24, 2026 — SINOVAC and GENNVAX, Egyptian local partner, signed an agreement for the localized production of influenza and Sabin-strain inactivated poliovirus (sIPV) vaccines during the 5th AFRICA HEALTH EXCON, to support Egypt's national initiative to strengthen domestic vaccine and serum self-reliance.

The signing ceremony was witnessed by Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health and Population of Egypt; Dr. Ali El-Ghamrawy, Chairman of the Egyptian Drug Authority; Dr. Hisham Stait, Chairman of the Egyptian Authority for Unified Procurement; and Zhang Qian, Director of International Business at SINOVAC. Representatives from the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the World Health Organization Egypt Office also attended the event, underscoring the public health significance of the bilateral collaboration.

As one of Africa's most developed vaccine hubs, Egypt is a key gateway connecting the Arab region and sub-Saharan Africa. SINOVAC has built a strong, long-term partnership in the country. Its hepatitis A and varicella vaccines have received local approval and are being consistently supplied in Egypt. During the COVID-19 pandemic, SINOVAC partnered with Egyptian institutions to produce vaccines locally, delivering over 30 million doses to support the country's pandemic response. In 2022, SINOVAC's state-of-the-art automated storage center was launched in Egypt, with a capacity of about 150 million doses. This significantly boosts Egypt's cold chain vaccine storage and distribution capabilities, thereby improving the vaccine supply chain across the African region. The new manufacturing agreement marks an important step in expanding bilateral cooperation into routine immunization vaccines.

Moving forward, SINOVAC will pursue a sustainable development approach by combining vaccine exports with localized manufacturing in Egypt.
