Regional Prevention Collaboration to Build Collective Immunity Against HFMD

HFMD is a contagious disease caused by various enteroviruses, with children aged five and under being the most vulnerable. During academic sessions, experts from multiple countries shared insights on local epidemiological patterns and prevention strategies in the Asia-Pacific and Latin American regions. All participants reached a consensus that sharing surveillance data across borders, jointly monitoring circulating virus strains, and exchanging vaccination experiences are essential to strengthening regional efforts to control HFMD.

SINOVAC's self-developed Enterovirus Type 71 Vaccine, Inlive®, has protected tens of millions of children since its launch in 2016. However, the fact that HFMD can be caused by a diverse range of enteroviruses, with limited immunity across different serotypes, creates a pressing need for multivalent vaccines that cover dominant circulating strains. To address this challenge, SINOVAC's bivalent inactivated enterovirus vaccine (HFMD2) has successfully met the primary endpoint and preliminary results indicate that the vaccine candidate exhibits a favorable safety profile and satisfactory efficacy results. Besides, SINOVAC's quadrivalent inactivated enterovirus vaccine (HFMD4) has recently initiated a Phase IIIa clinical trial, marking a significant milestone as the world's first quadrivalent vaccine candidate to advance to this stage of development.

The international delegation conducted on-site inspections of SINOVAC's entire vaccine production process, from bulk antigen preparation to filling and packaging.
